Turncoat

Shake their hands and smile.
With a dagger hidden up your sleeve.
Keep the people guessing.
Where your true loyalties lie.

The simple soldier chooses one side of the fight.
But the trickster fights no war.
They just stick their hand in every soldier’s pockets.
Whatever to fill their coffers.

The turncoat sings with the church’s choir.
And then gambles with the devil at night.
Whenever the truth dares to reveal the turncoat.
They just skip town with a wave and find some other victims.
