On the road after the people drift off to sleep.
Only the blinking red lights of pointless stops to guide me.
Empty roads that rise and fall lazily.
The sputtering street lights in front of me and the dark absence behind.
Some travel with heart.
A glorious purpose forward that guides them forwards.
Not me.
I am running.
Running away from the person I no longer want to be.
The missteps that led me here.
Once the city’s lights are behind me.
I am left with nothing but a beat up car and my thoughts.
Will I outrun the horror?
Only the rising sun knows the answer.
