Bulletin Board: Category Descriptions 2021

Hello Internet!

I hope all of you are doing well. I’m doing pretty well and I’m excited to kick off another year of writing and publishing here on my website. As you may know I am quickly approaching my 4 year Anniversary of Writing on WordPress. Officially I’m not back until tomorrow (01/17/21), but I wanted to do a quick update to my Category Descriptions since the last one was published in January 2018. If you don’t know what this is and did not see the other one, just know that this is a quick Blog just letting people know the different kinds of content I produce with a small description so they can be informed. I want people to know what sort of stuff I write so they can decide whether or not they want to read it. Thanks again for all your support and look out for a new Weekly Blog tomorrow kicking off my fifth year of writing content on WordPress.

Bulletin Board

Category for posts and short blogs which are used for quick updates about the website, breaks, or anything that I don’t deserve its own main Weekly Blog. Bulletin Board posts are also used as community spaces where people can just chat about whatever or give suggestions on how I can improve the website. I’d love to hear all sorts of feedback whether positive or negative so I get a better understanding of what my readers want to read and what they don’t or what troubles they might have navigating my website. I want it to be easy for people to find the stuff I write and enjoy it.

Bulletin Board posts are not a regular thing and don’t fit into my regular weekly schedule for posting content.

Weekly Blog

Category for longer blogs which are posted on a weekly basis and usually touch on subject matter outside of the logistics of the website. These pieces focus on what’s going on in my life as well as my interests, special holidays, personal stories, and whatever I have on my mind that week. These blogs are a good way to get a summarization of the pieces I posted the week prior as well as get a better understanding of me as an Author and as a person.

Weekly Blogs are usually published on Sundays as well as holidays or special events.

Category for posting short-form poetry. This can range from Hiakus and Six-Word Memoirs to more free form poetry with very little structure. This content is usually pretty short and perfect for people who don’t have a lot of time to read through long-form content like Blogs or Writing Prompt Pieces.

Poems are usually published on a weekly basis, coming out on Wednesdays.

Writing Prompt Pieces

Category for long-form content based off of Writing Prompts I find on through online sources and books. I primarily use the subreddit r/WritingPrompts to get Prompts but I have also used books and journals to find inspiration for Writing Prompt pieces. These pieces are rarely full stories, but more so small parts of a story which starts the reader out in the middle, without a strong beginning or end. Think of it as reading just one chapter of a book, but you are given all the context you are needed to enjoy the piece. Most of the Writing Prompts are stand-alone pieces but some may have sequels or many parts to them. My Dungeons and Dragons inspired series started as a collection of Writing Prompt Pieces and remain under this category although each individual chapter is not based on new Writing Prompts.

Writing Prompt Pieces are usually published on a weekly basis, coming out on Fridays.

Category for pieces that considered Fanfiction or fiction that I write but are based on someone else’s body of work. Generally speaking, Fanfiction is fiction where the Author takes already established characters, settings, and details and tells a new story within that world. My Fanfiction is not sexual in nature and does not have sexual content.

Fanfiction is not regularly updated and is not currently part of my weekly publishing schedule.

Character Creation

A new category being added in 2021 which will feature a breakdown of characters that I have written as well as new characters. These are short summaries of characters and the way they can be thought about including physical descriptions, personality, motivations, and more. Many will be formatted in a similar way to Dungeons and Dragons players sheets, but they won’t all be fantasy characters or Dungeons and Dragons characters. I’m hoping that reading through these Character Creation pieces will help others organize their characters and better understand the characters they are putting into their own pieces of fiction.

Character Creation is a new form of content which I plan on releasing on a monthly basis around the middle or end of the month. Based on its popularity and my motivation, these pieces could either become more regular or be put on hiatus.

Creative Writing

Creative Writing is a category which acts as a catch all for any miscellaneous pieces of work I publish. If the piece in question does not fit into any of the other categories, it will be found here. This includes things like “Best of” lists which I publish at the end of the year and short stories I wrote.

Creative Writing is not updated on a regular basis but there’s a chance I randomly publish something there if my motivation spikes.

This category is one which I used to publish pieces in, but it has been dormant since March 2017. The category is not on my main page but the pieces have not been unlisted. If you really want to read them, you can find them. These political pieces mostly focus on American Politics and are from a narrow, American-centric view. All beliefs are mine and mine alone and do not reflect the viewpoints of any organization or business I have worked for in the past or will work with in the future. They are based on my own personal research, but are obviously biased based off of my beliefs and my world view.

I have no plans on bringing back Political Pieces and have no plans on updating the category any further. You are more than welcome to read them, but I’ll be the first to tell you that they are not worth the time. I also know that political discussions are often time heated so I ask you to act in a civil manner and refrain from spamming, personal attacks against me or other viewers, and spreading misinformation. Racism, sexism, and other forms of hate speech will not be tolerated.
