Hello Internet!
I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe and healthy. My heart goes out to all the people living in California, Oregon, and Washington that are dealing with forest fires and heavy smoke. There have been a lot of pictures coming out this past week which look like they are out of an apocalypse movie or video game. If you live in those areas please do whatever you can to stay safe and hopefully the fires will be under control soon. I will talk more about what is going on with the world we live in and what we can do about it in a little bit, but first I want to quickly talk about the pieces I published this past week. Last Sunday I published a Weekly Blog talking about Voting Information. Voting is super important but the process can be a bit confusing, so if you have any questions read though that Weekly Blog and check out the websites I linked to for the specifics you need to know about voting (here in the United States). On Wednesday, I published a Poem titled “Maybe Next Time.” Inspired by the hell that is applying for jobs during an ongoing recession and the fact that inspiring words said a thousand times can actually become damaging after awhile. People might have your best interest at heart but mental illness can twist that. Lastly, on Friday, I published a Writing Prompt Piece titled “Clockwork Fairy” in which a watchmaker discovers a small fairy with broken wings. They end up befriending one another as the watchmaker creates a pair of clockwork wings for the fairy. If you missed out on any of those make sure you check them out!
Now I don’t need to tell you about how many bad things are happening in the world right now. There is still an ongoing pandemic, economic recession, political turmoil, racial inequality, forest fires, and so so much more happening all at the same time. 2020 is truly a cursed year filled with its fair share of Biblical Plagues. I try to stay informed about all of these things, but since I have very little power to stop any of them, being informed usually leads to an increase in stress. Couple these worldwide issues with personal struggles and it just adds up to a lot. Like, I’m exhausted all the time but also stressed out of my mind. Just not in a good place in my life. And I’m not saying this to get some sympathy. I’m definitely not alone when I say that 2020 has not been a good year. Lots of people are dealing a wide range of horrible things all at the same time and the last thing they need to do is attack themselves.
That’s kind of the point of this entire blog. If you are like me and are dealing with a lot of stuff, you don’t need to pile on. Things like anxiety or depression can attack your brain and tell you that you are not doing enough, but now more than ever, just making it through the day is enough. Be kind to yourself because you need someone in your corner when dealing with everything going on.
Basically I’m writing this Weekly Blog is a lot cheaper than therapy and this is my way of telling you advise that I need to tell myself. I am trying to deal with personal stuff while the world is on fire behind me and wondering why things aren’t going well. I don’t give myself any slack even though lots of people are in similar positions to me. And I’d definitely give them the benefit of the doubt. If I had a friend who couldn’t find a job and was unemployed during this recession, I would be understanding and supportive. However, for some reason, I’m not understanding and supportive of myself. I don’t show myself the same kindness that I would show others. That should change. Because I’m just man trying to chase a dream in a world on fire and I’d never discourage someone else from trying to do that.
Thank you for reading that Weekly Blog. It was a bit of a mess and a bit of a therapy session, but hopefully you got something positive out of it. If you liked this Weekly Blog, feel free to give it a like. I also have a ton of other published pieces here on the website and I’d love it if you would check them out while you are here. I’m also trying to grow a positive and creative space on the internet so if you want to support me and be a part of that space, feel free to Follow me here on WordPress. I’m very appreciative of all my viewers new and old, active and lurker, and I’m appreciative of you! Thanks again for all the love and support!
I hope you have a wonderful week!
