Hello everyone!
It has been awhile since I’ve written a proper blog but it has come time for me to voice some stuff. For all my fellow Americans out there (sorry international folks) today is Election Day 2024. Today is a day where we have to do our civic duty across the country and elect the next US President as well as Senators and House Members. Not to mention all the state-wide and local elected officials and ballot measures. There’s a lot on the line today. If you’re like me you’ve heard that every election is the most important and that democracy is on the line. In the past it might have sounded like an exaggeration, but this year I fear that this is very much the case. Donald Trump and the people behind Project 2025 want to strip Americans from their freedom and take away our rights. We’ve already seen how disastrous repealing Roe v. Wade has been for the women of this country and that’s just the tip of the iceberg if Donald Trump gets his way.
This election is very scary for anyone out there who’s Black, Brown, LGBTQ+, and/or a Woman. Even for a white, cisgender man like me, this election is worrying. We cannot allow Donald Trump to win the Presidency or else the next four years are going to be extremely dangerous for anyone who isn’t white, christian, and male. Trump has said that he will be a dictator on day one in the White House. When he says these things, we must believe him. He praises dictators left and right because he wants to be one. He does not care about the working people. He does not care about making things more affordable. He does not care about people who are working multiple jobs to make ends meet. He does not care about improving the lives of anyone outside of millionaires and billionaires. He really only cares about himself and keeping himself out of jail for trying to overthrow the US Government. Remember, Trump is a convicted felon and his legal trouble is not over. He wants to use the office of the US Presidency to shield him from justice and we cannot allow him to do so.
This is why I beg you. If you are a US Citizen who is registered to vote, you must go out and vote today. Make your voice heard. Not only do you need to vote, but you need to vote for KAMALA HARRIS and TIM WALZ. We have to fight for a better future. We have to fight for democracy. We have to fight for our fellow Americans and their rights. Fight for our families, friends, communities, and our country. Don’t become complacent. Don’t just tune out. And don’t assume that your vote doesn’t count or doesn’t matter. It does matter! Republicans wouldn’t be trying to suppress your vote if it didn’t matter. It does matter. So go vote. When we fight, we win or so I’ve heard.
If you still need some voting resources you can check out the websites for VOTE411, VOTE.ORG, or the ACLU. All of these will have resources for you that you may need before you vote. Just go out and use your right because if things don’t go well over the next few days, this might be the last time in a long time that we’ll be able to make our voices heard. I wish that was just fear mongering, but it’s a very real threat.
Last thing I’ll say before I go is that it’s perfectly fine to cast your ballot and then tune out from all the news. Do what you need to do to project your mental health. I know I’ll be stressed once election results start coming in, but I can’t’ recommend being glued to the phone or TV. It’s possible we won’t actually know who will be President until Wednesday or even later in the week. It’s important to note that it takes awhile to count votes especially when we have record levels of early voting and absentee ballots that need to be counted. Don’t let Donald Trump and Republicans try to claim an early victory or cry wolf on voter fraud. Voter fraud is very rare and when it does happen, it seems to be done by Republicans. Trump is going to try to claim that the election is somehow rigged against him, but it’s just not true. I believe he is going to lose fair and square, but that will only happen if we show up in record numbers and send a message to Trump and The Republican Party:
